The Pharmacist's Perspective

My name is Jennifer Carroll and I am a pharmacist and a member of the Society of Cannabis Clinicians, I have been been involved in various equestrian activities over the last 30 years. Most recently, I found my passion in the long standing tradition of riding to hounds with my horse, Tom in the Fox hunting field.  In the search for a quality product to help keep my horse calm and safe in the hunt field, I found Equilibrium by Cannahorse.

Equilbrium provided the type of calm that I was looking for, along with the comfort of knowing that I was giving him a quality, reliable, consistent product that worked quickly and maintained its effectiveness over time.

Quality is arguably the most important factor for CBD. Quality depends on many aspects such as the source of the hemp, quality control measures, and the manufacturing process. Cannahorse products use a patented emulsification process which has multiple benefits and provides a superior product that is both highly bioavailable and stable.

What is bioavailability? Bioavailability describes the rate and extent to which substances are absorbed from their sites of administration (topical, oral, etc) and become available at the sites of action.

Bioavailability is important because a substance only works if it is available in a form that the body can readily absorb and process, so that it can reach its intended site of action and provide the therapeutic effects we are seeking. Bioavailability and cost effectiveness go hand in hand… because you want to know that the product you are purchasing is going reach its destination and do what it is supposed to do when it gets there!

Also related to quality is stability. Stability is a critical product quality attribute that is directly linked to potency, purity, efficacy, and safety of a product throughout its shelf-life.  Stability is important, not only because it affects the safety and efficacy of the product, but also because degradation may cause a loss of efficacy and potentially even generate adverse effects. Therefore, achieving chemical and physical stability is essential to ensure quality and safety.

As horse owners we all know that our equine friends can be expensive at times. We want to be able to ensure that what we are giving our horse is high quality, safe, effective AND cost effective as well. That is why it is important to know that your choice of product has been researched and tested, that it is stable and not degraded, and that it will work as it is intended to so that we achieve the benefits that our equine friends deserve and the results that we want to see.

Jennifer is pharmacist and 2002 graduate of University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy in St. Louis. She has been involved in various equestrian activities over the last 30 years, most recently finding her passion with her horse Tom in the Fox-hunting field.
